Ratty: Jesus. I’ve seen this movie and I was sure it ended when they jumped off the cliff. I realize now that I was thinking of “Thelma & Louise” but I was VERY ready for the movie to be over when they jumped which is probably not a good sign. Paul Newman is the kind of likable that’s almost annoying and it’s just amplified when he’s next to Redford who just schlumps around like a grumpy scarecrow. I love a western but this was just a titch too long for me. And where was Brad Pitt? I could’ve sworn he was in this.
Mole: A fine bromance. It’s pretty slow in the beginning and a bit too serious. However, when Newman’s Cassidy and Redford’s Kid finally get to Bolivia and start learning Spanish to rob banks -backed by a buoyant Burt Bacharach soundtrack, no less- things pick up. It ends much livelier than it starts.
