Trailer Trash: “Blind”

Moley:

Demi Moore looks drawn and tight and so does Dylan McDermott. I guess they play some type of Madoff inspired couple, where Dylan McDermott is the real criminal mastermind and Demi Moore with those pursed lips and that tightened face is his wife and unwitting partner in crime.

He gets punished big time, but her punishment may even be worse. She has to read books out loud to a blind Alec Baldwin! And from the trailer, the books read like they were scooped from an E.L. James slush pile. It’s hard to say whether  Alec and Demi do it. That may have brought crowds into the theatre years ago, but now? I doubt it. He does feel her face, and she does blindfold herself and feel his face, but is that all the audience will get?  I’ll tell you what’s more exciting: the promise of elder abuse! Dylan McDermott’s character suited up like a member of Fassbinder’s posse in a black turtleneck and skinny black pants slaps plump faced Alec Baldwin and THEN strikes him in the knees with a club. I would say that is worth the price of admission alone.

Ratty:

Why can I never remember the name of the dude who kicks Alec in the ribs in this trailer? I get him mixed up with Billy Crudup and Patrick Dempsey. Not cause they look the same they’re just all sort of good looking guys who are kind of at that romantic lead level. Someone who is not at that level is Patrick Crudup’s foil: literal, and figurative, 59 year old Alec Baldwin. Woof. Talk about a gamble.

I can’t imagine this not being a real handwringer for the casting agent. I mean he’s a big get but like, does anyone want to see AB go back to drama? He’s got comedy chops and they’re usually pretty deadpan. Everything just sounds like a joke or a set up for one. I honestly laughed out loud at him running down the sidewalk. You could easily trim this trailer here and there to make it an un-self aware comedy but that scene, with him chest out blindly legging it down the sidewalk, you could just leave as is.
